BrowZine for Scholarly Journals

BrowZineBishop Library subscribes to BrowZine, which includes the BrowZine app for mobile devices, and BrowZine web, the new option for desktop computers/laptops.   Through BrowZine, you can browse and read thousands of the Library’s scholarly journals.  Back issues span ten years or less, depending upon the journal.  For more information, go to:

BrowZine app:

To download the free app, go to: When initially launching BrowZine, select Lebanon Valley College from the drop down list. Then, enter your LVC username/password, the same campus credentials you use for off-campus access to library resources. The BrowZine app requires an iOS version of 7.1 or newer for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.  For Android devices, 4.1+ is required.  The app has been tested on the following Android devices:  Google Nexus, Samsung Galaxy Tab & Note, and Amazon Kindle Fire HD.

BrowZine web:

To access BrowZine web on your desktop computer or laptop, click on the Scholarly Journal Room icon below. BrowZine web requires an up-to-date internet browser and works with the following versions: Internet Explorer 11+, Firefox 31+, Chrome 43+, and Safari 8+. Links within BrowZine web are durable or permalinks, so you can copy the URL from the browser to link to a particular category of titles or even a single journal’s table of contents screen. Off-campus, you will be prompted to login with your LVC username/password to access FT articles.

BrowZine web is also accessible from the library’s website at From the Start Your Search Now – Journals tab, click on Scholarly Journal Room.

Note: BrowZine web does not include all the features of the BrowZine app for mobile devices. My Bookshelf and Reading Lists are options that will be available in the future.

New Purchase: Springer Journal Package

Bishop Library has purchased a new subscription to an e-journal package through Springer/Lyrasis. The package includes online access to over 1740 Springer journal titles in the fields of business, science, technology, engineering, medicine and social sciences. Many of these titles include access from 1997 – present. As with all of Bishop Library’s journal subscriptions, these titles appear in the Journal Finder portal located at:

Note: Bishop Library does not have a subscription to everything that is offered on the Springer site. Many of the journal holdings go back farther than 1997 and would not fall under our subscription.

If we have access to an article, you will see a “Download PDF” link that looks like this:

If we don’t have access to an article, you will see a “Get Access” link instead. Springer does allow you to preview a few pages from these articles by clicking on “Look inside”:

Database Searching Tip:

If you are searching a library database, such as an EBSCOhost database, and only the article citation is available, make sure you click on “Looking for Full-Text”. Clicking that link will automatically initiate a search of all the library’s e-journal packages (such as the Springer package). If the journal is available in one of our e-journal packages, you will have access to the full-text article.

Interlibrary Loan:

If you do need an article that we don’t subscribe to, please remember to take advantage of Bishop Library’s ILLiad Interlibrary Loan service.

JSTOR: Print and Microfilm Titles to be Withdrawn

JSTOR_icon Bishop Library currently has access to the digital back issues of hundreds of journals through JSTOR. Founded in 1995 and originally funded by the Mellon Foundation, JSTOR was conceived as an alternative for libraries to reduce the space and cost of maintaining comprehensive collections of journals.

Since our subscription to JSTOR started in January of 2008, the LVC community has accessed over 31,000 articles. That is an average of approximately 850 articles a month. Due the popularity and convenience of electronic access to JSTOR, the print and microfilm items held in the Library are rarely used.

Please follow these links to the files that contain the lists of print and microfilm titles that will be discarded because they are now available from JSTOR. Current issues for those titles designated with a “Y” in the “JSTOR Current Scholarship Program” column are now available from JSTOR. Please contact Frank Mols ( or extension 6985) if you have questions or concerns about these titles.
