Gabriela McEvoy presented a paper entitled “The Big Shot of Irish in Peru” at the New England American Conference for Irish Studies at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Buzzards Bay, MA. on November 4, 2016.

This presentation addressed the question of how Irish immigrants played an important role in Peruvian’s economy, national politics, and culture. McEvoy’s paper aimed to answer this question by examining William R. Grace and John Patrick Gallagher’s socio-economic development in Peruvian society.

Faculty Scholarship: Spring & Summer 2016

In spring 2016, Michael Fink was invited to Taiwan by the Taiwanese PT Association to share his expertise in differential diagnosis.  The association recognized Mike as “the most well-known expert on this topic.”

While he was in Taiwan, Mike delivered three presentations, as outlined below:

  • “First Rib Mobilization Effects on Neck and Shoulder Dysfunction.”  Invited presentation to faculty & students at the National Taiwan University, April 29th, 2016; Taipei, Taiwan.
  • “Opening the Gates: Maximizing Patient Advocacy through Increased Autonomy.”  Invited Keynote Speech at the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association Annual Conference, April 30th, 2016; Taipei, Taiwan.
  • “Is It Really Musculoskeletal? Screening & Differential Diagnosis for Today’s Physical Therapist.”  Invited 2-day lecture/lab course presented to physical therapists at the National Yang-Ming University, May 1st-2nd, 2016; Taipei, Taiwan.

Mike was also invited to write a parent’s perspective commentary in a study that his son participated in through the University of Delaware.  His commentary may be found in Donohoe M, Fink ML. “Commentary on ‘Feasibility and Effectiveness of a Novel Exoskeleton for an Infant With Arm Movement Impairments.'” Pediatric Physical Therapy 2016;28(3):346. doi: 10.1097/PEP.0000000000000290.

Carmen Garcia Armero was awarded a Faculty Research and Development Grant in March 2016 which she used to study how gender, trauma, and the intergenerational transmission of traumatic memories are represented in contemporary Spanish literature and film. She also gave a presentation at the VIII International Congress of the Hispanic Association of the Humanities in Madrid, Spain.

Carmen is currently training for certification in MBSR Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at UPenn.
